Wedding Envelopes Etiquette

How do I address our wedding Invitations if there is no inner envelope?

We’ve picked out our invitations, which we absolutely love (plus they are 100% recycled which I love even more). The thing is that they do not come with an inner envelope, which is fine for me because that is less paper we are wasting, but I’m not sure of the etiquette on wording the outer envelope. More specifically, if I’m inviting a single friend & a guest, can I write “Mr. John Doe and guest” on the outer envelope or is that tacky? I want to make sure my friends know they can bring a guest. Also, do I write out the names of all the children in the family or can I just write “Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and family” ? Any suggestions?

I would say, in this case, to address the outer envelope accordingly. “Mr. John Doe & Guest,” “Mr. & Mrs. John Doe,” or “The Doe Family,” depending.

It seems kind of weird that you don’t have an inner envelope, although I TOTALLY applaud your conservation efforts!
